Wine Description

Mercurey 1er Cru Les Velley from the Paul et Marie Jacqueson wine estate is a cuvée made from Pinot Noir vines planted on clay-limestone soils typical of the Mercurey appellation. "Vellées" is the form that the Latin word "villa" may have taken, designating a farm, a place to live, a hamlet. This is an old plot of Pinot Noir planted in 1965.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : After harvest, the grapes undergo traditional winemaking, with around 30% whole bunches, bringing freshness and structure to the wine. Alcoholic fermentation takes place over a period of 15 to 18 days, with daily punching down to gently extract tannins and aromas. Ageing then takes place in Burgundy oak barrels for around 12 months, 25% of which are new, giving the wine complexity and elegance.

On the nose, the bouquet is complex, blending aromas of ripe black fruit, such as cherry and blackberry, with floral notes of peony and hints of sweet spices.

On the palate, the attack is full and voluptuous, offering a fine concentration of fruity flavors. Tannins are present but silky, ensuring a balanced structure. The finish is long, marked by hints of cherry and spice, testifying to the harmony and finesse of this cuvée.
