Wine Description
Tapis Rouge from Domaine de la Petite Empreinte is an exclusive cuvée in the Bourgogne Côtes d'Auxerre appellation, made from a plot of Pinot Noir planted in 1978 on the high limestone plateaux of Saint-Bris-le-Vineux. Taken over in 2020 by Mélissa Bazin and Romain de Moor, neighbors of the de Moor and Pattes Loup wine estates, this plot has since been undergoing organic conversion. Vinified from whole bunches, this cuvée reflects an expressive, artisanal interpretation of Burgundian Pinot Noir.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Tapis Rouge 2023 from Domaine de la Petite Empreinte is a real revelation. Although this is only the estate's third vintage, it's already a benchmark cuvée for lovers of great Burgundy Pinot Noir. This wine has an assertive personality and remarkable depth.
On the nose, the wine reveals intense aromas of kirsch cherry, cocoa, orange peel and white pepper, offering captivating aromatic complexity. These notes are the result of no-frills winemaking, characterized by long maceration in whole bunches and spontaneous fermentation with no added sulfur.
On the palate, the attack is lively, sustained by refreshing acidity that balances a generous body. Tannins are present but well integrated, giving the wine a balanced structure. The finish is persistent, marked by spicy notes and a slight earthiness, the signature of the limestone soils of the Côtes d'Auxerre.
