Wine Description

Domaine Philippe Alliet 's Chinon Vieilles Vignes reveals all the nobility of Cabernet Franc on the limestone hillsides along the banks of the Loire River. Made from the estate's oldest vines, aged between 40 and 70 years, planted on clay-limestone and clay-silica soils, this wine draws its depth and minerality from an exceptional terroir. The vineyard is managed using sustainable agriculture with a gradual approach to biodynamics, and benefits from gentle pruning, entirely manual harvesting and strict plot sorting. Winemaking respects the purity of the fruit: spontaneous fermentation in concrete vats, then ageing for 12 months in old oak barrels, with no added sulfites. Only a homeopathic trace of sulfur is added at bottling.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Since the 1990s, Philippe Alliet has devoted his life to Chinon's Cabernet Franc, passing on a family know-how that spans four generations. The Chinon Vieilles Vignes cuvée is a true showcase for this heritage: it combines structure, elegance and ageing potential, while remaining accessible in its youth. Allow three to five years of patience to allow the purity of the terroir to fully develop.

On the nose, the wine develops delicate notes of jammy black fruit, led by wild blackberry and morello cherry. Fine spices such as cloves and a subtle hint of white pepper emerge with aeration.

On the palate, the attack is silky-smooth, with a dense yet elegant texture. Flavors of ripe blackcurrant and black cherry mingle with a controlled acidity that sculpts the structure without weighing it down. The tannins, finely polished by ageing, add a slight chewiness, while an elegant saline note on the finish prolongs the pleasure. This Vieilles Vignes, already harmonious and well-balanced, expresses itself with a certain restraint that shows very interesting potential, and promises splendid evolution for those who give it time.
