From the eponymous plot in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Champagne R Pouillon & Fils ' cuvée Les Blanchiens 1er Cru Extra Brut is a blend of equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from clay and chalk soils.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Les Blanchiens embodies the typicality of the region's chalky terroir, from which the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir draw depth and structuring energy. An unbeatable balance between saline freshness and evolved flavors!

From the outset, the nose expresses frank notes of ripe white and yellow fruit, candied citrus and damp chalk. Slightly toasty hints from ageing add complexity and elegance.

On the palate, the full, vibrant body resonates with the saline tension typical of chalk terroirs. The balance between power, complexity and freshness lends the tasting a great liveliness, which carries through to the straightforward, mineral finish.
