Wine Description

Racines Wines ' Sanford and Benedict Pinot Noir comes from one of Santa Rita Hills' most renowned vineyards. Planted in 1971, this historic vineyard rests on clay loam soils rich in limestone and schist, providing a unique terroir for Pinot Noir vines. This cuvée is made from three separate plots, with some of the vines still in their original plantings. The result is a wine of profound complexity, juicy fruit and remarkable structure.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: This Sanford & Benedict is a striking expression of California Pinot Noir from Etienne de Montille via Racines Wines. This wine has it all: aromatic fruit richness, elegant structure, perfectly blended tannins and just the right amount of minerality. A true tribute to the Santa Rita Hills terroir and the savoir-faire of the Montille and Peters wine estates, it will easily age for several years in the cellar.

The nose is rich with intense aromas of black cherry, stewed raspberry, violet and lilac. A veritable explosion, this bouquet is further enriched by magnificent notes of cocoa, clove and leather.

Remarkable balance on the palate. The full-bodied texture carries off aromas of ripe red fruits and peppery spices with great intensity. The acid framework is serene, full of dazzling tonicity. The fine tannins deliciously prolong the finish, in which a hint of limestone can be detected. The whole is vibrant with precision and depth.
