Wine Description

Among Puligny-Montrachet's climats, Les Combettes occupy a privileged position on the northern border of Meursault, on deep clay-limestone soils resting on a stony substratum. These ideal conditions impart a natural fullness to the Chardonnay , without ever sacrificing uprightness or elegance. The Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru Les Combettes from Domaine Thierry et Pascale Matrot reveals a masterful balance, with perfectly controlled ripeness and vibrant freshness.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Les Combettes is the perfect alliance between Meursault and Puligny, the ideal marriage of the depth of the former and the tension of the latter. This cuvée from the Matrot wine estate is a superb expression of this: dense, harmonious, intense, with that saline minerality in the background that gives it length and nobility, this 1er cru is a benchmark of its kind. A complete wine, already seductive, made for 10 to 15 years of cellaring.

Complex aromas of gunflint and wet pebbles, white peach and hawthorn. A touch of fresh hazelnut and sweet spices add finesse and depth.

The palate is generous but structured around an acidic framework that avoids heaviness. There's great depth of substance, with juicy flavors of candied citron and white fruit. The minerality stretches the whole, giving the wine an invigorating lingering finish of sweet spices. An exemplary cuvée of Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru, with remarkable balance, from one of the most consistent and respected wine estates on the Côte de Beaune.
