Domaine Henri Milan is a historic wine estate in Provence and a true leader in natural wines.
The Milan family has long been producing some of Provence’s finest wines. It all began in 1956 when Robert Milan purchased the property in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, which at the time had no vineyards.
The wine estate truly took off with the arrival in 1987 of his son, Henri Milan, who was determined to produce wines that were as natural as possible. The transition to organic farming took place in 1988, and two years later, Domaine Milan released its first sulfur-free wine—a product far ahead of the standards of the time.
He also met someone who would change his perspective on viticulture: Claude Bourguignon, one of the world’s leading soil biologists, with whom he experimented with numerous grape varieties to enhance the character of his wines.
Today, it is Théophile Milan, Henri’s son, who tends to the vineyards and oversees winemaking with the same energy as his father and the same commitment to producing wines of superb balance.
The cuvées that, in our view, best reflect the work carried out by the entire Milan family over several generations are the Grand Blanc and the highly anticipated Clos Milan, which has finally been released again after nearly five years of absence.
These two cuvées are, of course, built for aging and will age beautifully over the years. These two wines can easily be cellared for over 20 years, but what’s truly remarkable is that they’re already absolutely delightful when young. Undoubtedly one of the wine estates producing some of Provence’s finest natural wines.
Note: It’s important for us to point out that the Clos Milan and Grand Blanc cuvées are wines of great stability. Our philosophy is that one cannot exist without the other. A wine must be alive, vibrant, and bring pleasure and emotion—but above all, it must be free of any flaws.
