Racines Wines is a Franco-American collaboration born from the partnership of two leading French wine estates: Domaine de Montille in Burgundy, represented by Étienne de Montille and Brian Sieve, and Maison Pierre Péters in Champagne, led by Rodolphe Péters. This project marks their first venture into winemaking outside of France, with the goal of producing highly elegant, artisanal wines in the cool climate of the Santa Rita Hills region in California.

Guided by a minimalist approach that respects the terroir, the winemakers at Racines Wines strive to express the terroir’s character and complexity in their wines. Their goal is to capture the essence of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties grown in vineyards influenced by the maritime climate of Santa Rita Hills. The grapes come from carefully selected plots cultivated using organic farming methods, including Bentrock, La Rinconada, Wenzlau, and the famous Sanford & Benedict. These sites benefit from limestone-rich soils and ideal exposure, offering optimal conditions for growing Burgundian grape varieties.

The winemaking methods are directly inspired by Burgundian traditions, featuring fermentation in French oak barrels of varying ages depending on the cuvée, and extended ageing on fine lees. This approach aims to preserve the wines’ freshness and develop their aromatic complexity, while faithfully reflecting the character of the terroir.

Racines Wines embodies the union of French expertise and the potential of California’s terroirs. Their cuvées reflect this spirit of balance between tradition and innovation, producing wines that are both of great aromatic purity and possess a distinct mineral structure.
