Adrien Renoir's Champagne Les Epinettes 2020 is an exceptional plot-based cuvée, illustrating the precision and refinement of his work. Produced from the Les Epinettes parcel, located on the Grand Cru de Verzy terroir, this Blanc de Noirs is made entirely from Pinot Noir harvested during the 2020 vintage. This vintage is considered remarkable in Champagne, thanks to near-perfect weather conditions that have produced grapes of exceptional ripeness and aromatic concentration.
Mischler Philippe, sommelier at Mundovin: The Verzy terroir, known for its chalky soils, gives this cuvée a remarkable freshness and minerality, emblematic of the Montagne de Reims. Winemaking and ageing are carried out in oak barrels, adding complexity and texture to the wine, while preserving the authenticity of the grape variety and terroir. After long aging on the lees, the cuvée is disgorged with a dosage of 0.8 g/L, highlighting its balance and purity.
Les Epinettes 2020 reveals a refined, expressive bouquet. Ripe red fruit aromas, such as cherry and raspberry, intertwine with subtle notes of candied citrus, dried flowers and toast. A chalky minerality emerges in the background, bringing a sensation of freshness and finesse.
On the palate, the attack is lively and precise, revealing great tension. The texture is silky, almost enveloping, with rich flavors of red fruit, orange zest and sweet spices. Barrel ageing adds nuances of vanilla, roasted nuts and a hint of smoke. The finish is long, saline and beautifully balanced, marked by vibrant minerality and impressive aromatic persistence.
