Wine Description

Saumur Champigny "La Haye Dampierre" is a parcel-based cuvée from the Antoine Sanzay wine estate. The vines thrive on a terroir of tuffeau and silt typical of the Saumur Champigny appellation. This is where the name "tuffeau stone" comes from. This stone has long been recognized for its ability to store heat. The wines produced here are supple and fruity, with deep, dark aromas. Antoine Sanzay has chosen to use gentle extractions to preserve the aromas and authenticity of his terroir. There's no showboating, just ageing to enhance the clarity of his terroir.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Antoine Sanzay offers us a top-class Saumur Champigny with Haye Dampierre. I'm fascinated by the result! It's a Cabernet that's already blossoming in its youth, admittedly slightly rough in terms of tannins, but already very pleasant. The aromas that make it up are very varied. They remind me of a great Bordeaux from a few years ago, without the over-woodiness of some of them. A success in terms of balance, a wine that is both fresh and beautifully concentrated.

The nose expresses itself easily on opening, with notes of violet, plum and blueberry. A hint of noble herbs adds freshness. Licorice dominates the back of the glass.

The palate is beautiful, gourmand and juicy. Ripe fruit aromas blend perfectly with spicy notes. The bloodiness is very slightly present, bringing a dark edge to this superb Saumur Champigny.
