The Vino di Contrada cuvée is a Sicilian wine made by Arianna Occhipinti. The Frappato grape is the only variety used to make this Italian red wine. Contrada is a term used to describe the countryside near the historic town of Pettineo , where the terroirs are composed of sand and limestone. The vines on the Occhipinti wine estate are around 60 years old , which allows for naturally low yields. This is an exceptional cuvée, of which only 2700 are produced worldwide.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Vino di Contrada is one of the great Frappato cuvées produced by Arianna Occhipinti. It is an extraordinary wine for ageing, matured in large Slavic casks for around 22 months. Once bottled, it rests for a further 2 months to allow the wine to acclimatize to its new environment.

A great wine for ageing, but can also be drunk young with a few hours decanting.

On the nose, aromas of iris, blackcurrant and rose open up easily after 2 hours. The wine reveals itself with finesse and precision, Arianna Occhipinti's trademark.

The palate is fresh on the attack, with silky tannins. Notes of raspberry jam, sugared strawberries and a hint of plum balance the wine's acidity. The finish is sapid and exceptionally long.
