Wine Description

Domaine de la Tournelle 's Vin Jaune is one of Evelyne Clairet's most accomplished cuvées, made from old Savagnin vines grown organically on marl soils in Arbois. Aged for seven years under veil without topping up, in the strictest respect for Jura tradition, the wine reveals its oxidative typicity to the full. The 2015 vintage benefits from a fine climatic balance, with low yields but perfect ripeness. Fermentation is carried out exclusively with indigenous yeasts, in temperature-controlled vats, and malolactic fermentation is completed. After ageing, the wine is bottled according to the lunar calendar, without the addition of sulfites.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Domaine de la Tournelle 's Vin Jaune is a jewel of balance and complexity. It has that vibrancy that only great wines can convey. It is undoubtedly one of the most expressive wines of the Jura, an essential benchmark. Its aromatic intensity and precision make it as much a collector's wine as a great gourmet wine.

On the nose, the Savagnin grape expresses itself intensely with typical aromas of fresh walnuts, mild curry and fresh honey. Added to this are notes of candied orange peel, quince jelly and mushrooms. The whole is complex, very pure, with precise, controlled oxidation.

On the palate, the structure is immediately apparent, with superb tension. Aromas of morel mushrooms, walnuts, saffron and curry give the slightly saline finish a delicious aftertaste. The body is both ample and precise, structured by perfectly integrated acidity. This is a cuvée with great ageing potential, capable of evolving with majesty over the next two decades.
