Wine Description

The Clos Romans at the Roches Neuves wine estate is the brainchild of Thierry Germain , whose aim is to reveal the distinctive character of each of his terroirs. He scours each parcel of Saumur in search of the perfect identity of the terroir in which it lies. His choice to select very old Chenin vines by massal selection is now paying off. The Clos Romans cuvée perfectly reflects this quest. The result is more than satisfying - it's simply magnificent. The wine is lively, vibrant and bursting with minerality.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Clos Romans is quite simply a Chenin we'd like to see in our glasses more often. It shines with luminosity and emotion. Working the soil with a horse, natural grassing and so on. All these processes have helped to bring to light the exceptional terroir of Souzay Champigny. Thierry Germain's wines are not only superb, they're also alive.

The nose is dominated by a superb sensation of freshness. Lime blossom, mint, star anise, orange peel. Loire Chenin in all its splendor. A refined and elegant nose that deserves to be savored.

The palate is pure and fresh, with lacy acidity. The dynamism is provided by the terroir, which adds minerality throughout the tasting. The palate is greedy and lively at the same time. The aromatic palette is varied and well-balanced.
