Wine Description
The Barolo Via Nuova from the E. Pira & Figli comes from a very special plot of land near the center of Barolo. Its name comes from the road that linked Barolo to Novello during the last century. Today, all that remains of this road is a path through the vineyards, which the locals walk along. This cru was recently incorporated into the Barolo appellation (in 2010). It is distinguished by its fine texture and extremely complex aromatics.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The latest addition to the Barolo appellation is certainly one of the greatest in the Piedmont area, along with the famous Cannubi parcel. This Barolo Via Nuova surprises with its extremely delicate substance and subtle aromatics. In the 2016 vintage, it even received Italy's highest distinction, a 100/100 in the Vinous guide.
On the nose, the wine transports us into several different worlds. To begin with, it reveals notes of rose petal, blueberry, cardamom and a hint of menthol. Then it's the turn of the empyreumatic notes to come to the fore, with magnificent hints of smoke and cocoa.
The palate mirrors the nose, with a fine, silky texture the likes of which you rarely taste. The aromas are numerous and reveal themselves with great intensity. Of course, this is still a very young wine that deserves a few years before being enjoyed.
