Wine Description

Domaine Fumey Chatelain 's Chardonnay is one of the most accomplished expressions of this grape variety on the exceptional terroirs of the Arbois appellation, composed of Lias marl and clay. The vines, grown organically, benefit from a cool climate and controlled yields. Marin, son of Adeline and Raphaël Fumey Chatelain, continues the estate's demanding, artisanal approach, perpetuating the spirit of the place by combining respect for the fruit with precise ageing. The 2023 vintage confirms this quality dynamic, delivering a Chardonnay du Jura full of balance and character.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: This Chardonnay 2023 from the Fumey Chatelain wine estate impressed me with its precision and density. It's a straightforward, no-nonsense wine, where you can feel both the seriousness of the cellar work and the natural richness of the Arbois terroir. It's a far cry from over-oaked or caricatured expressions. There's a real dialogue here between substance and freshness, with a complex finish that beckons the table.

On the nose, the wine opens with an aromatic palette of ripe white fruit, white flowers and a hint of aniseed. A discreet background of dried fruit and a hint of smoke add complexity. Discreet ageing frames without masking the expression of the grape variety.

The palate is ample from the outset, with a coherent balance between fatness and tension. The well-constructed body develops aromas of orchard fruit, citrus zest and dried herbs. The finish is long, carried by a mineral framework and a light, noble bitterness that adds relief. An accomplished Chardonnay from the Jura, representative of the richness of its terroir.
