Domaine de la Pousse d'Or's Corton Grand Cru Clos du Roi is a sublime Côte de Beaune grand cru. The old Pinot Noir vines flourish on east-facing clay-limestone slopes. Domaine de la Pousse d'Or owns 1.45 hectares of what was once part of the Domaine Royal in the 15th century. The wine is aged on lees in 30% new oak barrels for 18 months.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Corton Grand Cru "Clos du Roi" is a wine ofelegance and finesse , unlike Bressandes, which is more powerful and full-bodied.
On the nose, the wine is very refined, developing beautiful hints of Morello cherry, white pepper, sweet spices and a few woody touches in its youth. A harmonious wine that should be decanted when young.
The palate is very fine and well structured. The tannins are already very fine and the acidity perfectly calibrated to the whole. This Corton shows great complexity in its youth , with a fresh, minty aftertaste.
