Wine reviews
Triple Zéro is a sparkling wine from Montlouis-sur-Loire. This 100% Chenin natural sparkling wine gets its name from a winemaking process that is free of three types of additives: no chaptalization, no tirage liqueur, and no expedition liqueur. After 24 months of aging on slats, it offers creamy, refreshing bubbles—without being overly sweet—with flavors of ripe citrus and a briny finish. A signature wine from La Taille aux Loups!

Triple Zéro is a cuvée unlike any other. Born in the cellars of La Taille aux Loups, an iconic estate inthe Montlouis-sur-Loire appellation, it embodies a radical vision of sparkling wine. Jacky Blot, its creator, has long been celebrated for his dry and sweet Chenin Blancs. With this cuvée, he paved the way for the great sparkling wines of the Loire. Since his passing in May 2023, his son Jean-Philippe Blot has carried on the tradition with meticulous care and precision.
Triple Zéro is made from 100% Chenin, sourced from vines over 50 years old. Their roots reach deep into clay-limestone and clay-siliceous soils, resting on limestone bedrock. This dual geological composition—both structuring and well-draining—shapes a Chenin of rare precision. The maturity of the old vines provides a natural richness in sugar sufficient to fuel the secondary fermentation, without any external additions.
The estate is certified organic. The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted selectively on a sorting table. Fermentation is spontaneous, carried out with indigenous yeasts in 5- to 10-year-old oak barrels. Slow—very slow. It is completed in the bottle, on slats, over a period of 24 months. This is where the meaning of the name lies: no chaptalization, no tirage liqueur, no expedition liqueur. Triple Zero. A wine stripped of all artifice, owing its bubbles and balance solely to the ripeness of the grapes and the passage of time.

Original and elegant—that’s how one might describe this Triple Zéro cuvée. Rarely produced in this appellation, this 100% Chenin sparkling wine, made from vines over 50 years old, has been delighting many sparkling wine enthusiasts for several years now. The first thing one might assume is that this sparkling wine must be very acidic. On the contrary, while freshness is certainly present, its liveliness is perfectly balanced by the maturity of the grapes, which adds a real depth of fruit and enjoyment. Harvesting at full ripeness and adding no sugar: this is the simple, unbeatable logic that makes Triple Zéro a benchmark among the Loire’s naturally sparkling wines. Serve at around 10°C, ideally with gougères topped with aged Comté cheese or a sea bream tartare with citrus. It will reach its peak by 2030.
The Nose
The nose reveals itself with surprising clarity for a sparkling wine. Citrus notes dominate: lemon, mandarin, and grapefruit. Behind them, a hint of fresh apple and pear, followed by a subtle note of brioche and almond that hints at the 24 months spent on slats. The mineral, almost chalky, finish rounds out the profile with precision.
Palate
On the palate, the attack is crisp and lively. The bubbles are fine, airy, and creamy on the mid-palate. They roll with a lightness that speaks volumes about the quality of the second fermentation. The Chenin’s vibrant acidity provides structure without being harsh. The finish is long, briny, and slightly lemony. A chalky persistence that makes you want to take another sip.
Located across from Vouvray on the left bank of the Loire, the Montlouis-sur-Loire appellation is exclusively dedicated to Chenin. Its soils, a blend of clay, limestone, and flint, offer a remarkable range of styles: dry, off-dry, sweet, and sparkling. The valley’s temperate climate promotes gradual ripening, ensuring complexity and tension.
In an appellation known for its still whites, the Triple Zéro stands out as a pioneer among non-dosage sparkling wines. It pushes Chenin to its absolute limits: no artifice, no additives—just the true essence of the grape and the terroir. Rated 92/100 by The Wine Advocate and 90 by the RVF, it has quickly become one of the must-try wines from La Taille aux Loups.
