Wine Description
Michel Bouzereau et Fils ' Meursault Les Grands Charrons is born on one of Meursault's most eminent lieux-dits, often cited for the elegance of its wines, whose stature equals some of the Premiers Crus from this emblematic village of Burgundy whites. The wine estate's 1.5-hectare parcel is planted on stony clay-limestone soil at the top of the hillside, with more alluvial soil at the bottom. The east-facing aspect enables the old Chardonnay vines, some of which are over 70 years old, to reach homogeneous levels of ripeness. Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils vinifies the grapes with their own indigenous yeasts and ages the cuvée for one year in oak barrels, 20% of which are new. The wine then rests between 2 and 4 months in vats to complete its maturation before bottling.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Michel Bouzereau et Fils ' Meursault Les Grands Charrons is a benchmark for understanding the precision that the wine estate applies to each of its wines, whatever the appellation level. It's also an illuminating gateway to the Bouzereau style. A great wine from a great Meursault terroir!
On the nose, the wine combines the generosity of ripe white and yellow fruit with sweet notes of acacia honey and toasted almonds. Hints of orchard flowers float above the glass as the wine airs out, while a hint of rubbed stone and the fine woodiness of ageing add empyreumatic depth.
The palate is as ample as it is taut, toned by perfectly-adjusted acidity. The fruit retains its brightness and freshness, prolonged by the subtly spicy aromas of ageing. Complex aromas of honey, almond paste and white pepper blend perfectly with the mineral relief of the finish, whose delicate salinity and aromatic persistence convey the full identity of the Grands Charrons climate.
