Wine Description
Michel Bouzereau et Fils ' Meursault Les Tessons comes from a hillside to the west of the village of Meursault, on one of Burgundy 's most renowned terroirs in the village appellation. The Les Tessons climat, with its reputation for quality dating back to the 19th century, rests on a clay-limestone soil where the parent rock outcrops beneath a red earth rich in iron oxides. This composition, combined with an easterly exposure, gives the wine a rare mineral energy and regular ripeness. The Chardonnay vines, most of which are around sixty years old, are hand-harvested when perfectly ripe. Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts, then the wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in oak barrels, 25% of which are new.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils ' Meursault Les Tessons has all the hallmarks of a 1er Cru. The strength and complexity of this cuvée far surpass the standards of its village appellation. It expresses with extraordinary quality the potential of this historic terroir, long considered one of Meursault's elite.
Intense aromas of fresh, candied citrus, ripe orchard fruit, white flowers, fresh herbs and chalky filigree emerge from the glass. Complex nuances of roasted nuts, brioche bread and sweet spices add to the overall charm, anchoring this cuvée in a refinement worthy of a 1er Cru.
On the palate, the wine combines fleshy fullness with vertical tension and limestone minerality. Tonic, mineral acidity balances the richness of ripe fruit and tertiary aromas with great elegance. The fine spicy accents of ageing lend this Meursault Les Tessons from Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils a light, appetizing bitterness on the finish.
