Morey-Coffinet 's Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée is born on one of the most coveted terroirs in the southern part of the appellation. The climat La Romanée owes its name to an ancient Roman road that once crossed this exceptional land, now renowned for the chiselled structure and aromatic intensity it imparts to its wines. Domaine Morey Coffinet, under the leadership of Thibault Morey, cultivates an 81-acre parcel of organic vines , planted in 1957. Planted mid-slope on a gentle slope, these Chardonnay vines benefit from the progressive sunshine of their southeast-facing aspect, and the efficient natural drainage of their clay-limestone soils , which are relatively stony on the surface. Their deep roots give the wine impressive power and aromatic fullness. After hand harvesting, natural winemaking is carried out in oak barrels before ageing for 14 to 16 months. The measured proportion of new oak is designed to preserve the balance between structure, precision and clarity of terroir.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée de Morey-Coffinet expresses a particularly racy, vertical facet of the appellation. La Romanée is distinguished by its mineral tension and aromatic precision, made for ageing. A veritable jewel of the Côte de Beaune, it seduces with its intense expression and extraordinary power.

On the nose, this Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée de Morey Coffinet reveals a deep, complex bouquet, initially dominated by crystalline notes of limestone and gunflint. Gradually, the opening reveals delicate aromas of yellow apple, pear and nectarine, greedily enhanced by elegant notes of hazelnut butter and almond paste. Hints of white flowers emerge at the back of the glass, followed by a zesty freshness and the sweetness of candied ginger.

The palate is chiseled, precise and surprisingly full. The airy, velvety texture blossoms on perfectly integrated acidity, and unfolds its flavors of poached pear, white peach, baked apple and fresh citrus. The play of balance between aromatic richness and mineral tension allows the wine to evolve incredibly in the glass, right up to the strikingly deep finish, marked by bewitching salinity and the delicate afterglow of candied zest.
