Morey-Coffinet's Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is an emblematic wine of the wine estate. Here, Thibault Morey offers us a masterful interpretation of one of the Côte de Beaune's most prestigious premier crus. Located to the south of the Puligny Montrachet appellation, on the border with Meursault-Charmes, this deep clay-limestone terroir with a stony surface produces wines of crystalline precision and sensuality. The Chardonnay vines grown on our wine estates have a predominantly easterly exposure and are planted on mid-slope. They are organically farmed, with hand harvesting to preserve the integrity of the grapes. Winemaking is carried out in oak barrels, followed by a long ageing process, adjusted according to the vintage and cuvée, to respect the raw material and faithfully express the terroir.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Since his first vintage in 2017, Thibault has revealed all the grace and complexity of this exceptional climate. Morey Coffinet's Puligny Montrachet Les Combettes is a pivotal cuvée in the reading of the wine estate's premier crus. It combines the tension and finesse typical of the village with a mineral intensity and sensual texture reminiscent of the proximity of the great terroirs of Meursault. In the wine estate range, this Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru stands out for its balance, offering a very precise interpretation of Burgundian chardonnay for lovers of racy, long-keeping whites. Winemaking and ageing are carried out with the precision of a goldsmith.

On the nose, an initial hint of toasted hazelnut quickly gives way to an airy, floral bouquet. Delicate scents of almond blossom, lime blossom, lily of the valley and jasmine mingle with refined herbaceous nuances of chervil, wild mint and lavender. The fruit expresses itself with elegance around Granny apple, juicy pear and candied lemon, all sublimated by a gourmet touch of fresh butter. A mineral imprint evoking wet rock is also present.

On the palate, the attack is lively and dynamic, carried by a mineral tension of rare purity. Fresh fruit bursts onto the palate, with notes of crisp pear, white peach, clementine and passion fruit. Subtle ageing adds a silky, refined texture, without ever weighing the wine down. Spicy hints emerge, evoking Sichuan pepper, nutmeg and juniper berry. The finish is balanced between lemony freshness and slightly flambéed, fruity flesh. This Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes de Morey-Coffinet is definitely a great white Burgundy, expressing great precision and elegance.
