Wine Description

Morey-Coffinet 's Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot is one of the most renowned in the appellation. Dominated by the historic presence of Morgeot Abbey, this climate extends to the south-east of the village, on the edge of the Santenay finage, with a south and south-east exposure that favors the gradual, regular ripening of Pinot Noir. Its name may derive from "morge", an old patois word for thin, stony soil, particularly well-suited to the grape variety. Grown organically, the vines here enjoy ideal conditions for developing remarkable aromatic intensity, while retaining the freshness essential to the wine's balance. After hand harvesting and natural winemaking using indigenous yeasts, with gentle extraction and cold maceration, the wine is aged for 14 to 16 months in oak barrels to refine its structure without altering its authenticity.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: This 1er Cru rouge Morgeot from Domaine Morey Coffinet embodies the elegance and precision of Chassagne's Pinot Noirs. Its finesse and lacy tannins exalt the expression and vivacity of the fruit, making it a wine for pleasure as well as gastronomy, expressing all the complexity and nobility of a great Burgundy red wine.

The nose is intense and refined from the very first whiff, releasing concentrated aromas of black cherry and small red berries with panache. The freshness of delicate floral notes, between peony and violet, adds great elegance to the bouquet, which is enhanced with aeration by notes of black pepper, liquorice and undergrowth, testifying to its masterful ageing and Burgundian roots.

On the palate, this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot de Morey-Coffinet reveals a full, caressing body, marked by superb freshness that perfectly balances the richness of the fruit. The finesse of the tannic structure sculpts a velvety texture that sublimates the density of the black fruit and balances the mineral tension of the Morgeot terroir. This Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru rouge undeniably belongs to the exclusive circle of soulful wines.
