Wine Description
This Chassagne-Montrachet from the Morey-Coffinet wine estate is a blend of several parcels with complementary profiles, giving it remarkable richness and depth. The vines of the Les Charrières parcel , located not far from Puligny-Montrachet , are planted on deep clay soils that provide density and volume on the palate. Further south in the finage, the vines planted on the Chaumes terroir benefit from a limestone substratum rich in small pebbles, guaranteeing finesse, tension and a marked mineral expression. Finally, grapes from the Les Lombardes vineyard in the heart of the village bring freshness and brightness thanks to lighter, sandier soils.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The grapes are harvested at optimum ripeness and pressed slowly to extract the quintessence of the fruit. Alcoholic fermentation takes place naturally in oak barrels with indigenous yeasts, guaranteeing an authentic expression of Chardonnay. Ageing lasts between twelve and fourteen months in 228 and 350-liter barrels, with around thirty percent new wood to preserve the wine's elegance. A light stirring of the lees is carried out at the start of the ageing process to promote a fine texture on the palate.
The first nose reveals a subtle, refined bouquet dominated by floral notes of acacia, honeysuckle and orange blossom, mingling with fruity aromas of juicy pear, white peach and preserved lemon. A touch of fine herbs such as verbena and chervil adds freshness and complexity.
On the palate, the attack is full and caressing, with a silky, crystalline texture. The wine unfurls a beautiful aromatic palette combining flavors of Reinette apple, citrus zest and fresh almond. The minerality of the terroir is expressed through saline and slightly spicy nuances, with notes of white pepper, star anise and a hint of iodine adding depth and relief. The balance is perfect between tension, fruit and structure, and the long, precise finish leaves a vibrant, elegant sensation.
