Long description
The Domaine de Terrebrune is a landmark of Provence, part of the historic heritage of the Bandol region. It is located in the commune of Ollioules, nestled in the foothills of the Gros Cerveau massif. The vineyard spreads out in terraces on the edge of a valley overlooking the sea.
Domaine de Terrebrune is a family-run wine estate founded in 1963 by Georges Delille. Today, it extends over 30 hectares, which have recently been farmed organically and biodynamically, thanks in particular to Reynald Delille, who continues to perpetuate the family tradition, in order to bring out the very best of the terroir in all his wines.
Georges Delille, founder of the wine estate, passed away in the spring of 2021. Today, it's his son Reynald who takes up the torch, solidly supported by Patrick Aparicio, one of the pillars of the Terrebrune wine estate. They are the guardians of this monument to Provencal winegrowing heritage bequeathed to them by Georges Delille.
The vineyards of the Domaine de Terrebrune are located on a terroir with an exceptional geology: the Trias. This is a Tertiary limestone formation over 200 million years old, resulting in a complex soil structure of limestone pebbles, brown clay and friable rock. The vines have been rooted in this treasure trove of terroir for generations, drawing their nourishment from the many mineral elements present in the soil.
The vineyard is mainly planted with Mourvèdre, the king of the Bandol appellation, but Grenache Noir and Cinsault are also used to make Bandol rosé, and a multitude of white grape varieties(Marsanne, Rolle, Ugni Blanc, Bourboulenc, Clairette and Trebbiano) make up the Bandol blanc blend.
The winemaking process, meanwhile, is very hands-off and visionary. Georges Delille has always wished to keep the wines in his cellar in order to pass on old vintages to wine lovers of the time. In fact, the red wines are not marketed until they have slept in the bottle for 5 years in the estate's cellars. The ambition of the whole team is to make Terrebrune the most renowned wine estate in Provence. And today, we can say we've succeeded: in fact, the wine estate can boast of being at the forefront of the most reputed wine guides. A 3-star RVF (Revue des Vins de France) wine estate.
The most famous wines are, of course, the Bandol red and Bandol rosé, with their incredible complexity and ageing potential. The rosé is one of the best in the appellation, both when young and when aged. It's not uncommon to taste rosés over 10 years old at the Terrebrune wine estate, and it's quite admirable. As for the Bandol red, it's a wine of unparalleled precision and complexity that over the years has been heralded as one of Provence's finest wines.
Domaine de Terrebrune is unquestionably a landmark in the Bandol appellation and, more broadly, in the Provence region. Its success lies essentially in the way it challenges itself in the vineyard and cellar, and in the uniqueness of its terroirs. A great wine estate that never ceases to surprise.
