Located in the heart of the Burgundy wine region, in the village of Cruzille, Clos des Vignes du Maynes is much more than just a vineyard: it is a true historical institution and a pioneer in natural winemaking. Founded in the 9th century by the monks of Cluny Abbey, this family-owned wine estate is now passionately led by Julien Guillot, an iconic figure in the French wine world. Since 1954, the estate has been farmed organically—long before this practice became trendy—and has been certified for biodynamic wines since 1998.
The vines, planted on clay-limestone soils rich in minerals such as aragonite, are nurtured with the utmost respect for nature and have never been treated with chemicals. The wine estate spans approximately 7 hectares and includes iconic plots such as Mâcon-Cruzille and Bourgogne Rouge Les Crays. One of the wine estate’s treasures lies in its old vines of Gamay, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, some of which are over 80 years old. Low yields and a hand harvest ensure grapes of exceptional quality.
Julien Guillot upholds traditional winemaking methods: fermentation with native yeasts, whole-cluster maceration, and extended ageing in barrels without the addition of sulfur. Each cuvée is a pure reflection of its terroir, with remarkable authenticity.
The wines of Clos des Vignes du Maynes stand out for their finesse, minerality, and vibrant energy. Iconic cuvées such as Mâcon Cruzille “Aragonite” or Bourgogne Rouge “Auguste” rival Burgundy’s greatest wines.
