Wine Description
Domaine Adrien Berlioz 's cuvée Marie Clotildeis one of the wine estate's most structured and refined wines in theVin de Savoie PDO. Produced from old vines grown biodynamically in Arbin, Savoie, on steep, shallow terroirs ofclay andlimestone scree, it embodies a noble, racy and generous Mondeuse for ageing. The composition of the soil, combined with optimal exposure and mountain altitude, give this red wine a unique dimension, at once intense, taut and finely spiced.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : With Marie Clotilde, Adrien Berlioz delivers a serious, elegant cuvée, vinified with patience and precision. The grape variety reveals both a broad aromatic palette and a simply sublime complexity of structure. A rare, pure interpretation of Mondeuse, with structure, freshness and depth, which will benefit from cellaring for a few more years.
On the nose, the bouquet is deep and expressive, with fresh red fruit, black fruit coulis and freshly ground black pepper. When the wine opens, it's a veritable vegetal bloom of thyme, laurel and rose. A hint of earth and tobacco punctuate this unexpectedly fresh bouquet.
The palate is full-bodied, structured around tasty, if still slightly young, tannins. The pulpy texture carries the fruit and spice aromas remarkably well. The acidity deliciously stretches the wine's length, bringing out a delicious minerality. A sign of a high-altitude wine with remarkable ageing potential, the whole forms a balance of inescapable refinement.
