Wine Description
Adrien Berlioz 's Chignin-Bergeron Raipoumpou comes from a parcel of Roussanne on steep, south-west-facing slopes. The terroir is clay-loam with deep limestone. Fermentation and ageing take place in vats for 8 months, with a light stirring of the lees to bring out the wine's full body.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The Raipoumpou cuvée is a pure creation by Adrien Berlioz, who wanted to demonstrate that Roussanne could be magnificent on Savoyard terroirs. This wine is extremely pure, with a very intense mineral profile.
On the nose, the wine expresses itself with great elegance. Notes of honeysuckle, jasmine, hints of pink grapefruit and lime zest. A complexity typical of ageing on lees, between roundness and sweet spices.
The palate is both fine and gourmet. Citrus fruits, ripe yellow fruits and white pepper meet each other in a well-controlled aromatic balance. The wine's structure is built on a perfect balance of acidity, enveloping body, pretty bitters on the finish and the minerality that runs through the tasting. This minerality, which increases as the wine opens up, gives incredible depth and length to this Roussanne.
