Wine Description
Arianna Occhipinti 's SP68 Rosso is an invitation to follow the Strada Provinciale 68, the road through the Sicilian countryside that gives this cuvée its name. In the hills of Vittoria, in the south of Sicily, Arianna Occhipinti passionately cultivates two grape varieties intimately linked to the local identity: Frappato and the famous Nero d'Avola, which are blended here (70%-30%). Our approach is based on organic and biodynamic viticulture, with meticulous attention to the natural balance of the soil. Winemaking is deliberately simple and respectful: spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts, ageing in concrete vats to let the freshness of the fruit and the depth of the Terre Siciliane IGT terroir express themselves.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin :Arianna Occhipinti 's SP68 Rosso is quite simply a piece of Italy in the glass. Like its white twin, this red wine is seductive in its texture and balance. A beautifully crafted flagship cuvée from this star of Sicilian wines, this Terre Siciliane IGT has it all. Not only is it fresh and easy to digest, but its structure and perfect balance make it delicious and vibrant. You're immediately seduced by its purity, personality and naturalness!
On the nose, the wine reveals a palette of juicy red fruits, enhanced by discreet floral nuances. Between fresh raspberry and crisp cherry, violet and rose blossom in the glass with airy grace, punctuated by hints of wild herbs typical of the Sicilian climate. This Mediterranean profile is complemented by notes of wet stone, blond tobacco and smoke. Yet the whole is disarmingly light: it's all about the balance between fruit and minerality.
On the palate, this sensation of lightness is echoed in the finesse of the tannic structure. The acidity of the Nero d'Avola enlivens the supple material and propels the greedy aromas of ripe red and black fruit. Spices, wild herbs and empyreumatic aromas come together in a surprisingly fresh finish, where the balance between acidity and minerality reaches new heights. Irresistible!
