Wine Description
Elisabetta Foradori’s Granato Teroldego is made from the oldest Teroldego vines—a native grape variety of Trentino—and is produced only in vintages of sufficiently high quality. The name “Granato” refers to a small vineyard of about four hectares, located around the village of Mezzolombardo, in the heart of the Campo Rotaliano. This area lies at the bottom of the valley, surrounded by the rocky cliffs of the Dolomites, which creates a unique microclimate. The alluvial soils, rich in sand mixed with gravel and rounded pebbles, promote good drainage for the vines’ roots. The old vines are cultivated using biodynamic methods and managed to maintain deliberately low yields. After the hand harvest and natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the wine undergoes ageing in large oak vats before resting for several years in the bottle in the wine estate’s cellars.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: With Granato, Elisabetta Foradori has created one of the most accomplished expressions of Teroldego. The old vines and meticulous biodynamic cultivation give rise to a cuvée of depth, finesse, and longevity.
On the nose, this wine reveals great aromatic complexity with floral notes of violet, hints of ripe black fruit, and lovely tertiary notes of cocoa and licorice, which add a rich and refined dimension to the overall profile.
On the palate, the Granato is exceptionally fresh, with a silky texture and elegantly integrated tannins. The flavor profile displays a remarkable concentration of black fruits and subtle hints of bitter cocoa. The balance between power and elegance is perfect!
