Wine Description

Morey-Coffinet 's Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Remilly was born on an exceptional terroir at the northernmost point of the Chassagne Montrachet finage. This parcel, planted in 1954 by the wine estate, extends over 35 ares in direct continuity with the Grands Crus of Puligny, starting with Chevalier-Montrachet. On this steep, south-west-facing slope, the Chardonnay vines benefit from ideal sunshine and regular winds for optimal natural aeration. The climate is characterized by its predominantly limestone soil and outcropping bedrock. This singular geological composition gives the wine a pronounced minerality, which Thibault Morey's meticulous winemaking brilliantly enhances. After careful manual harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed to extract a clear, pure must. Fermentation is led by indigenous yeasts, before ageing in oak barrels, with a judiciously measured proportion of new wood to bring complexity and depth to the wine without altering its character. Ageing on fine lees for several months delivers a wine that fully expresses the character of its terroir.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Morey Coffinet 's Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru En Remilly proudly asserts one of the appellation's most crystalline profiles. Its verticality and mineral intensity make it a high-precision cuvée. The hallmark of Domaine Morey Coffinet is an extra touch of grace and finesse to this nervous, great white wine designed for ageing.

The nose opens with a frank, incisive expression of lemon zest, fresh grapefruit and green apple. Floral and herbaceous nuances combine with the delicacy of peach skin, followed by subtle smoky notes reminiscent of gunflint.

On the palate, the slender, dynamic structure carries the chiseled substance with its lively, fresh acidity. Flavors of citrus, zest and fresh hazelnut are dazzlingly pure, while the saline energy of the finish lingers for a long time.
