Splendid Cahors in the making
The Cosse Maisonneuve wine estate is a true gem of the Southwest. In 1999, two friends who were winemakers, Matthieu Cosse and Catherine Maisonneuve, decided to settle down and put down roots in the Cahors appellation. Their goal: to go against the grain of the appellation’s standards and produce wines of finesse and elegance.
Matthieu Cosse previously worked at Château La Coste in Provence, and Catherine Maisonneuve previously worked at Château Léoville Las Cases.
Today, the wine estate comprises approximately 17 hectares of vineyards, with Malbec as the primary grape variety , along with some Merlot, Gamay, and Cabernet Franc.
From the very beginning, they sought to make authentic wines that honor the terroirs of Cahors. They therefore embraced biodynamic winemaking, which for them embodies a philosophy of respect for all living things.
All of the wines are made from massal selections with low yields. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo several successive sorting processes. This ensures the highest possible quality of grapes to produce the finest Cahors wines.
We have several favorites at Domaine Cosse Maisonneuve, notably the Les Laquets cuvée, a pure Malbec from 40-year-old vines on a limestone plot. The “La Fage” cuvée, which comes from a clay-gravel terroir, is a rather expressive wine even in its youth. And how could we not mention the incredible “La Marguerite” cuvée, a micro-cuvée that is one of the best Cahors wines on the market—arguably the very best.
Matthieu Cosse and Catherine Maisonneuve are now considered the finest Cahors winemakers. This is the result of meticulous work at every stage of winemaking. The Cosse Maisonneuve wine estate produces magnificent wines.
The entire lineup is superb!
